Start your Saturday with the headlines that matter. This video from The Canadian Press, carrying Associated Press top news coverage for October 9, 2026, runs through the day’s leading stories in one short briefing.
The roundup covers the major U.S. and world developments of the day, from Washington politics and the economy to international stories and weather, in the wire service’s straightforward, no-frills style. It is the same briefing newsrooms across North America use to set their morning agenda.
Daily video briefings work because they compress a crowded news day into the few developments most likely to affect your decisions: what Congress and the courts are doing, where markets and fuel prices are heading, which storms or outbreaks need attention, and what to watch in sports and entertainment before the evening. If a story in the briefing matters to you, our text coverage in the sections below follows it through the day with fuller reporting.
This edition was published for Friday, October 9, ahead of the weekend. That timing matters: Friday briefings tend to flag the stories that will develop over Saturday and Sunday, from congressional manoeuvring before the midterm elections to weekend fixtures and any severe weather expected to make landfall.

We publish a short video briefing like this each day in our Video section, alongside our original reporting in World, Politics, Business, Technology, Sports, Entertainment, Health and Science. Running time is short by design, so you can catch up over coffee and still have the full picture before the day gets going in earnest.
