Privacy Policy

Last updated: October 9, 2026. Effective immediately for all visitors to globenews9.com.

1. Who we are and what this policy covers

GlobeNews9 (“GlobeNews9”, “we”, “us”) is a digital news publication operated within the 24World Media network. Our publisher’s office is at 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, United States. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect when you use globenews9.com (the “Site”), why we collect it, how we use and share it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. It applies to the Site and to messages sent to us through the Site. It does not apply to third-party websites linked from our pages.

By using the Site you agree to the handling of information as described here. Where a law gives you stronger rights than this policy states, the law prevails and we will honour it.

2. Information we collect

2.1 Information you give us directly

When you write to us through the contact form, we collect the name, email address, topic, subject and message you submit, together with the page you sent it from. Messages are stored in our newsroom system so the relevant desk can read, route and answer them. When you subscribe to a newsletter or alert where offered, we collect the email address you provide and record your confirmation. When an organisation engages our commercial services, we collect the business contact details needed to run the engagement.

2.2 Information collected automatically

Like almost every news site, our servers record technical information when pages are requested: the address requested, the time, your IP address, browser type and version, device type, referring page and response codes. Our hosting and security providers process the same data to deliver the Site and to keep it safe. We also use privacy-respecting measurement to understand which stories are read, in aggregate; aggregate readership statistics do not identify individual readers.

2.3 Cookies and similar storage

The Site and its service providers set a small number of cookies and similar local storage items. They fall into three groups:

  • Strictly necessary — security, load-balancing and remembering basic preferences; the Site does not work correctly without these.
  • Functional — remembering choices you make on the Site, such as dismissing a notice.
  • Advertising and measurement — where advertising is served by partners, those partners may set cookies to deliver, cap and measure campaigns, subject to their own published policies and to the controls described in section 7 below.

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings. Blocking strictly necessary cookies may break parts of the Site; blocking advertising cookies does not remove advertising but may make it less relevant.

2.4 What we do not collect

We do not ask for or store payment card numbers on this Site, government identifiers, health information or precise location. We do not build profiles of individual readers for sale, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13; if you believe a child has provided information to us, contact us through the Contact page and we will delete it.

3. Why we use information

We use the information described above for defined purposes only: to operate, secure and improve the Site; to deliver the pages and media you request; to read, route and answer messages, correction requests and legal notices; to send newsletters and alerts you have subscribed to; to measure readership in aggregate and understand which coverage serves readers; to serve and measure advertising; to run commercial engagements our clients have ordered; and to meet legal obligations and protect the rights, property and safety of the publication, our readers and others.

4. Legal bases where they apply

Where the law of your place of residence requires a legal basis for processing, we rely on: your consent (for example, newsletter subscriptions and non-essential cookies, which you may withdraw at any time); performance of a contract (commercial engagements); our legitimate interests in operating a news publication, answering correspondence and securing the Site, balanced against your rights; and compliance with legal obligations.

5. How we share information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only in these circumstances:

  • Service providers — hosting, security, delivery, measurement and advertising partners who process data on our instructions or under their own published terms, only as needed for the Site to function.
  • Within the 24World Media network — where a message or engagement concerns sister publications or the network’s standards function, the relevant desk may receive it.
  • Legal and safety — where required by law, court order or lawful request, or to protect people and property, enforce our Terms of Service, or establish, exercise or defend legal claims.
  • Business transfer — if the publication or network is sold or reorganised, information may transfer to the new operator under this policy’s terms; we will post notice on the Site if ownership of this policy changes hands.

6. How long we keep information

Contact-form messages are kept for as long as needed to handle the enquiry and for a reasonable period afterwards for record-keeping, normally not longer than twenty-four months unless the correspondence becomes part of a legal or standards file. Server and security logs are retained for a short rolling period set by our providers. Subscription addresses are kept until you unsubscribe or the address becomes undeliverable. Business records are kept as required by applicable accounting and tax law.

7. Advertising partners and your controls

Advertising on the Site may be served by third-party partners who collect information under their own privacy policies, which are linked from their campaign notices where provided. You can control interest-based advertising through your browser settings, through industry opt-out pages available in your region, and by clearing cookies. Opting out does not remove advertising; it changes how it is selected.

8. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to: know what personal information we hold about you; receive a copy; correct inaccuracies; delete information; restrict or object to certain uses; withdraw consent; and data portability. Residents of California and certain other jurisdictions have additional rights, including the right to know categories of information disclosed and to opt out of any “sale” or “sharing” as defined locally — as stated above, we do not sell personal information. To exercise any right, write to us through the Contact page with “Privacy” in the subject line and enough detail to identify the information concerned. We may need to verify your identity before acting; we respond within the period the applicable law sets, and we will explain any lawful reason we cannot fully comply. You may also complain to your local data protection authority.

9. International transfers

The Site is operated from the United States and our providers may process data in the United States and other countries. Where information is transferred internationally, we rely on the safeguards required by applicable law. By using the Site from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those at home.

10. Security

We use HTTPS delivery, access controls, security monitoring and least-privilege administration to protect the Site and stored messages. No system is perfectly secure; if we become aware of a breach affecting personal information, we will act and notify as the law requires. Please never send passwords, card numbers or highly sensitive documents through the contact form.

11. Links to other sites

Our reporting links to official documents, other publishers and services. Those sites have their own privacy practices, which we do not control; review their policies before submitting information to them.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as the Site and the law change. The “Last updated” date at the top changes with each revision, and material changes will be announced on the Site. Continued use after a revision takes effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.

13. Contact

Questions and requests under this policy go through the form on the Contact page with “Privacy” in the subject line, or by post to the publisher’s office: 1411 N Sterling Ave, Palatine, IL 60067, United States.

14. Data protection contact and complaints route

Data protection questions are handled by the publisher’s office in the first instance: use the Contact page with “Privacy” in the subject line, and your message is logged as a privacy request from the day it arrives. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the data protection authority in your place of residence; where US state law provides a right of appeal against a refused request, write back to the same route marked “Privacy appeal” and the refusal will be reviewed by a person not involved in the original decision, with reasons given in writing.

15. Automated processing

We do not make decisions about individual readers by solely automated means that produce legal or similarly significant effects. Automated systems assist with spam filtering on form submissions, security threat detection and aggregate readership counting; a human can review any of these outcomes on request.

16. Do Not Track and global privacy controls

Browser “Do Not Track” signals do not currently have an industry-agreed meaning, so the Site does not respond to them as a distinct setting. Where your browser or device sends a recognised global privacy control signal that applicable law requires us to honour as an opt-out, we treat it accordingly for the advertising purposes described in section 7.

17. Retention schedule in brief

  • Contact-form messages: handled, then retained up to twenty-four months for records and standards review.
  • Subscription records: until unsubscribe or persistent delivery failure, then deleted from the active list.
  • Server and security logs: short rolling retention set by our hosting and security providers, accessed only for security and operations.
  • Engagement and billing records: retained for the period applicable tax and accounting law requires.
  • Correction and standards correspondence: retained with the story file as part of the publication’s accountability record.
