Anthropic is reportedly in advanced talks to raise about USD 10 billion in fresh funding at a valuation of nearly USD 350 billion, a deal that would almost double the artificial-intelligence company’s value just months after its September financing and underline how the global race to build ever-larger AI systems is setting new records for private capital.
According to reports of the financing, the round is expected to be led by Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund GIC and Coatue Management, with Microsoft and Nvidia also expected to participate. The terms are still fluid and could change before any agreement is finalised, and the company has not commented publicly on the talks.
Valuation would nearly double in three months
The reported figure would mark a steep climb from the USD 183 billion valuation attached to Anthropic’s USD 13 billion Series F in September, which itself was a leap from the USD 61.5 billion valuation of a financing in March. The trajectory shows how quickly valuations for AI startups have climbed as investors commit enormous sums to frontier AI laboratories.
Anthropic, founded in 2021 by former OpenAI staff led by chief executive Dario Amodei, is known for its Claude models and the Claude Code coding assistant. Its stated aim of reaching breakeven by 2028 reflects the tension between the huge capital the sector demands and the revenue needed to justify it.
Compute is the real prize
Behind the headline figures lies a scramble for computing power. Training and operating large language models demands vast data-centre capacity, and Anthropic has been assembling cloud partnerships anchored by Amazon’s cloud alongside major commitments from Microsoft and Nvidia. The reported entry of a sovereign wealth fund signals that national-scale capital is now competing directly with venture money for stakes in frontier AI.
Markets have been watching the AI build-out closely for signs of whether the infrastructure boom is translating into durable returns, even as some analysts question how far the rally in private AI valuations can run.
