Zimbabwe’s U-19 bowler Victor Chirwa was suspended from bowling by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after his bowling action was found to be illegal.
The left-arm spinner was reported of suspect action by the umpire during Zimbabwe’s group game against Papua New Guinea (PNG) in the ongoing U-19 World Cup.
“Chirwa was reported by the match officials during Zimbabwe’s match against Papua New Guinea on Saturday. Video footage of him bowling in the event was shared with the Event Panel for review,” the ICC said in a release.
“The Event Panel concluded that Chirwa employed an illegal bowling action and, as such, in accordance with Article 6.7 of the regulations, he is immediately suspended from bowling in international cricket. The Event Panel comprised members of the ICC Panel of Human Movement Specialists,” the ICC further said.
He was instrumental in their huge win in the first group against PNG, ending with figures of 7-3-11-2. Zimbabwe went on to win the match by a whopping 228 runs to begin their World Cup campaign on the right track.
Chirwa also played the second match against Pakistan which Zimbabwe lost by 115 runs. He went wicketless in the match and will not be taking further part in the tournament.
