Rohit Sharma-led India National Cricket Team lost by 17 runs against Jos Buttler-led England National Cricket Team in the third and final T20I match of the series at the Trent Bridge, Nottingham on Sunday, July 10.
Winning the toss and batting first, England batters did an outstanding job. Dawid Malan top-scored for the side with 77 runs in his bag and Liam Livingstone smashed unbeaten 42 runs. Also, Jason Roy, Jos Buttler, Harry Brook and Chris Jordan chipped in crucial runs to help England score 215 runs.

Chasing the target, India were reduced to 31/3 after they lost the wickets of Rishabh Pant, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. After losing top-order batters, Suryakumar Yadav and Shreyas Iyer added 119 runs. Suryakumar Yadav played an exceptional knock and smashed his maiden T20I ton to become only the 5th Indian batter to smash a century in T20I cricket. However, Suryakumar Yadav’s efforts went in vain as no other batter performed well and India lost the match.
Speaking after the match, Rohit Sharma said that the chase by the Indian team was fantastic even though they fell 17 runs short. He showered high praise on the centurion Suryakumar Yadav and said that he was magnificent to watch. Rohit Sharma said:
“ I thought it was a fantastic chase although we fell short. We are proud of the fight. Surya was magnificent to watch. I have been watching him for a while now. Loves this format, has wide range of shots. He has grown from strength to strength since we got him into the squad.”
Rohit added that the England batters put India under pressure with their brilliant performances. He said:
“They put us under pressure with their batting. Decent partnership put us on the back foot. You back yourself to get this score.”
Rohit Sharma further said that India fielded only 5 bowlers because they wanted to see whether they can bowl 4 proper overs. He signed off by saying that the loss in the 3rd T20I was a great learning for the team.
“We were clear in trying out guys if they can bowl 4 overs. We have things to work on as a group. Hope so. So far things are pretty good. We don’t want to sit on laurels. We want to get better every game. Today was great learning for us as to bowl to come out and bowl. And to bat as well. Games like this will teach you.”
