Washington Sundar was picked by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in IPL 2022 auction. The team bought the batting all-rounder for Rs. 8.75 crores. Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and Punjab Kings engaged in an exciting bidding battle to pick the player in their squad at the start. However, SRH entered the bidding in the end and picked him for Rs. 8.75 crores.

Washington Sundar set a base price of Rs. 1.5 crore ahead of the auction. He was part of Royal Challengers Bangalore in the past few seasons. Washington Sundar has also played a few international matches. He often gets a call for Tests and T20Is in the national side. The bowling all-rounder has a decent record in Indian Premier League so far. In 42 IPL games, he accounts for 217 runs and 27 wickets.

The right-arm spinner was part of Rising Pune Supergiants in IPL 2017. He played 11 matches in the season, picking 8 wickets. Later, Royal Challengers Bangalore picked him in the 2018 season. He played 4 seasons for the team till IPL 2021. He gave a good show in IPL 2020, picking 8 wickets in 15 games while also scoring 111 runs.

Last year, Washington Sundar got injured during the IPL 2021 UAE leg and did not play any game for the team. In the first leg, he played 6 matches and picked 3 wickets. Ahead of IPL 2022 auction, Royal Challengers Bangalore released him from the squad.
