Former Indian pacer Ajit Agarkar has advised Rohit Sharma to stay fit like former Indian captains MS Dhoni and Virat Kohli, now that he has been appointed as India’s full-time white-ball captain. It is notable that Rohit has had his struggles with injuries throughout his international career which seem to increase with him getting older.
This has also led to a lot of speculation over the future of the Indian Cricket Team as Rohit has now been appointed as the full-time white-ball captain of the Men in Blue. While Virat stepped down as the T20I captain, the selectors of the Indian Cricket Team removed Virat Kohli from the ODI captaincy as they believed Rohit should lead the team in both formats.
Due to a hamstring pull, Rohit had to miss India’s recent tour of South Africa, wherein, they were humbled in the Test and the ODI series. Rohit’s fitness is also important from the perspective of a batter as he is among the senior-most batters in the Indian cricket team presently. In such a scenario, where Rohit has to manage his workload across the 3 formats, Ajit Agarkar has advised him to maintain his fitness levels.
“I think it’s a good thing and the right thing to do – to have one captain for the white-ball format and now Rohit actually can fly,” Agarkar said on Star Sports.
“So, the challenge for Rohit Sharma in my opinion – is to stay fit and play everything that is there, from now to the World Cup in white-ball cricket, because you want the captain that was one of Virat Kohli’s strengths or MS Dhoni before that, they rarely missed games, and both were very fit,” Agarkar said.
Team India will be taking on West Indies in a three-match ODI series and a three-match T20I series which will commence from February 06 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This will be Rohit Sharma’s first assignment as India’s full-time white-ball skipper and the veteran would like to stabilize the turbulent flight of Indian cricket.
