The 27-year-old India National Cricket Team batter Shreyas Iyer has revealed the real story behind his unique on-field dance celebration in the first ODI of the three-match ODI series against West Indies National Cricket Team at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, Trinidad on Friday, July 22.
India won the thrilling first ODI of the series by a small margin of just 3 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the series. Batting first, India were able to post 308/7 on the board with the help of the amazing performances of skipper Shikhar Dhawan, young opener Shubman Gill and star batter Shreyas Iyer. Chasing the target, West Indies batters did a great job but they failed to complete the chase.

Shreyas Iyer, who was appointed as the vice-captain for the first two ODIs after Ravindra Jadeja got ruled out of the games after sustaining a knee injury, came out to bat at No.3 after the dismissal of Gill, who smashed an incredible half-century.
Iyer batted brilliantly in the match and he scored 54 runs off 57 balls, including 5 fours and 2 sixes, before being dismissed by Gudakesh Motie in the 36th over.
During the innings of West Indies in the first ODI, Iyer grabbed a good catch off pacer Shardul Thakur’s delivery to dismiss West Indies batter Shamarh Brooks in the 24th over.
After he completed the catch, he celebrated the wicket in a unique style by showcasing his unique dance moves.
In a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on their official Twitter handle on Saturday, the right-arm pacer Mohammed Siraj and Iyer were having a conversation.
During the conversation, Siraj asked Iyer about his dance celebration and the batter narrated the story behind his move.
“Tell us about those dance moves with the crowd. What was going on there?” asked Siraj. “They were teasing me, saying ‘Drop a catch, drop a catch’. So when a catching opportunity came, I danced like them [the West Indies players],” replied Iyer.

Meanwhile, Iyer after his good batting performance in the first ODI became the joint second-fastest Indian batter to reach the 1000 runs milestone in Men’s One Day International (ODI) cricket.
The 27-year-old reached the 1000 ODI runs milestone in 25 innings. He is tied with former cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu, who also accomplished the milestone in his 25th ODI innings.
The fastest Indian players to score 1000 runs in Men’s One Day Internationals are Virat Kohli and Shikhar Dhawan. Both Dhawan and Kohli reached the 1000 ODI runs milestone in 24 innings.
