Royal Challengers Banglore beat Rajasthan Royals by 4 wickets in Match 13 of the Indian Premier League. It was a great game as both sides had their chances in the game. Sanju Samson too had similar views as he in the post-match presentation said that he cannot pinpoint a single instance where his team lost the game.
Rajasthan Royals were put to bat after Faf du Plessis won the toss. They did not have a great start as they lost Yashavi Jaisawal very early in the powerplay. Devdutt Padikkal and Jos Buttler had a good partnership in the middle which brought RR back on track. But a double strike by RCB meant RR were once again in a spot of bother. Shimron Hetmeyer and Buttler took RR out of the hole and finished well. It was largely due to their efforts in the end overs that RR posted a competitive score of 169 on the board.
RR skipper in the post-match presentation acknowledged the efforts of Buttler and Hetmeyer. Buttler scored 70 runs while Hetmeyer scored 43 runs. “Jos and Hetmyer batted brilliantly at the death,” said Samson.
Royal Challengers Banglore had a good start to their innings but they lost the momentum in the middle and lost 4 wickets within 11 balls and were reduced to 62-4 at one stage of the game. But then a valuable inning by Shahbaz Ahmed took RCB closer to the target and a fine quickfire 44 runs of 23 balls by Dinesh Karthik saw RCB cross the line.
“I can’t point out one moment where we lost the game. I thought it was a great effort to put up that total on such a slow wicket after losing the toss. Taking the match to the last over with the dew coming in was a great effort as well. DK is someone with a lot of experience. We just need to take our time to set the field. Lots of positives to take out of this loss, and we can learn a lot of things as well,” said Samson after the game.
On being questioned if he whether he asked the umpires to change the ball because of dew, Samson said that he did not.
