RCB captain Faf du Plessis acknowledged the fact that the match against KKR went down to the wire courtesy of the excellent bowling from the KKR lineup.

After restricting KKR to 128, it was supposed to be an easy chase for RCB. However, despite there being nothing much in the deck for the bowlers, Umesh Yadav and Tim Southee ran riot with the new ball.

RCB was down to 17/3 with Virat Kohli and du Plessis back in the hut. A partnership ensued between Sherfane Rutherford and David Willey before Dinesh Karthik finished the game off in typical style.

“Very happy. Good win, obviously chasing small scores, you want to be positive and not leave it late, but it was good bowling from their seamers. Tonight there was seam and bounce, first night it swung a bit more,” du Plessis said at the post-match presentation ceremony.

Du Plessis reserved special praise for Karthik, who stayed till the end and finished the game off in the final over. It reminded the South African of a certain MS Dhoni, who is known for last-over finishes.

“Two-three days ago, it was 200 v 200. Tonight it was 120 v 120, pretty good. In an ideal world, we would’ve liked to have won more convincingly but a win is a win. DK’s experience helped in the end, cool-calm, runs weren’t never really too far away. He’s probably as cool as MS Dhoni can get in the last five overs,” du Plessis added.

With the win, RCB now has their first points on board and will be keen to carry on the momentum from here.
