Team India head coach Rahul Dravid said the team management wants to give more opportunities to some players.

South Africa whitewashed India 3-0 in the recent ODI series after a narrow win by four runs on Sunday in Cape Town.

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock smashed a scintillating 124 with Rassie van der Dussen continuing his tremendous form with 52 off 59 balls as the hosts were bowled out for 287.

India lost the third ODI by four runs

Deepak Chahar got a couple of wickets in the first innings, first he bowled an excellent outswinger to induce the outside edge of Janneman Malan behind the stumps.

Later in the innings, Chahar bowled one short-length delivery to Aiden Markram, which the batter pulled early towards Ruturaj Gaikwad (substitute fielder) near the deep mid-wicket region.

Chahar also scored a brilliant 54 from 34 balls, plundering five boundaries and a couple of sixes at the strike rate of 158.82. However, Chahar’s fighting knock wasn’t enough as India fell short by four runs in their chase of 288.

Apart from Chahar, Suryakumar Yadav, who played his first match of the series, made 39 from 32 balls.

Shikhar Dhawan, who came to play in the ODI series after a gap of nearly six months, accumulated 169 runs from three innings at an average of 56.33.

Dravid said that some players should be given more opportunities but the Indian head coach also sought good performance in return.

“We know guys have done well and we would like to back them as much as possible. Sometimes they would have good tours and sometimes, it won’t be possible, that’s just the way it is,” Dravid said in the post-match press conference.

“We certainly want to give them that consistency and we want to give them that security.

“Once you give them that consistency and security, you have also got to demand performances, really big performances and that is an expectation you have when you play at this level, when you play for your country, you have to put in big performances and that’s a requirement,” he added.

South Africa opener Quinton de Kock, who amassed 229 runs to end up as the highest run-scorer of the ODI series, was adjudged as the player of the series.
