The International Cricket Council (ICC) has officially reprimanded England Women’s player, Katherine Brunt, following the conclusion of the semifinal against India in CWG 2022.

Brunt was heard making an obscene statement during the game. In the aftermath of the match, the ICC brought it up and charged her for breaching Article 2.3 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel.

In addition to this, one demerit point has been added to Brunt’s disciplinary record, for whom it was the second offence in a 24-month period, taking her cumulative demerit points to two.

The incident occurred in the 17th over of India’s innings, when Brunt used inappropriate language after a catch was dropped off India batter Deepti Sharma,” the statement from ICC read.

Since it was a level 1 breach, she was handed a warning. The maximum penalty for the same is sanctioning 50% of the player’s fee in addition to one or two demerit points as the officials deem fit.

Brunt admitted the offence and accepted the sanction proposed by Shandre Fritz of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees, so there was no need for a formal hearing.”

On-field umpires Eloise Sheridan and Kim Cotton, third umpire Claire Polosak and fourth umpire Shivani Mishra levelled the charge,” it further mentioned.

England lost the semifinal match to India by four runs and will now be playing in the bronze medal match against the loser of the other semifinal between Australia and New Zealand.
