After the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2021, Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s T20I captain and Rohit Sharma was appointed as the new captain of the India National Cricket Team.
Since Rohit’s appointment as T20I captain, India have not lost a T20 International (T20I) series. The Rohit Sharma and Co. whitewashed New Zealand, West Indies and Sri Lanka at home in the three-match T20I series.
After the Indian Premier League 2022, Rohit Sharma was rested and India played the five-match T20I series against South Africa, under the leadership of Rishabh Pant, and after losing the first two games India made a strong comeback and won back-to-back games. The last game of the series was washed out and the series ended in a 2-2 draw.
Also, India, under the leadership of the Indian Premier League 2022 title-winning captain Hardik Pandya, defeated Ireland by 2-0 in the T20 International (T20I) series.
After India’s victory in the second T20I of the series against Jos Buttler-led England on Saturday, July 9, Shahid Afridi took to Twitter to shower praise on Team India. He said that Team India will definitely be one of the favourites to win the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022.
“India have played outstanding cricket and deserve to win the series. Really impressive bowling performance, they’ll surely be one of the favourites for the T20 World Cup in Australia.”
