Sam Curran has received praise from Ian Bishop for doing admirably in the T20 World Cup 2022 despite lacking the qualities often needed to succeed in Australian conditions.

Curran contributed excellent stats of 3/12 as England held Pakistan to 137/8 in the final game on Sunday, November 13. Then, in the shortest format of the game, Jos Buttler and the team won the target with five wickets remaining.

Ian Bishop was questioned about the left-arm seamer’s performances in the contest while he was discussing the final on Star Sports. He replied:

“Playing bowling in all aspects is difficult. If you think about playing and bowling in Australia, you probably picture tall or extremely fast bowlers. He is one of the tournament’s shortest seam bowlers.”

The former West Indies pacer commended Curran for using all of a T20 innings to display his bowling abilities. He clarified:

“So to be able to exploit swing and control in the powerplay, go through the middle overs and exhibit control and skill there, and then come at the backend, where it’s a change of pace, short ball, and wide yorkers and wide pace-off, I think it could be easily undervalued. So for one so young, to show the improvement that he has done here in Australia for a World Cup – brilliant.”

Ian Bishop was also questioned about Curran’s mental capabilities, given how quickly he recovered after being belted in the semi-finals against India. He responded:

“Strong, strong, but we’ve seen that from Sam Curran since his international debut. Understanding what a hitter is trying to do at any vital point in the game and being able to change his delivery, hide it away from him, or make the ball hit off-center is also important.”

Both the Player of the Match and the Player of the Tournament awards went to Sam Curran. If the former all-rounder for the Chennai Super Kings is willing to participate in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction, he would probably be in high demand.
