German Bionics debuted the fourth generation of Cray X, designed of carbon fiber and the latest in a line of workplace exoskeletons designed to be worn on the workers’ backs to offer support.

The fourth-generation Cray X supports workers by actively amplifying their movements and protecting the lower back from excessive strain when lifting loads of up to 62 pounds, offsetting that weight. Made of carbon fiber and designed with an integrated cloud interface, Cray X easily connects to the industrial Internet of Things (iIot) and the Smart Factory.

German Bionics worked with SGL Carbon in the development of the Cray X carbon fiber load-bearing structure, and the fourth generation Cray is the lightest version yet, adding comfort for the wearer and making the suit stronger and more durable. The exoskeleton is worn like a backpack and strapped on with a harness in front. The frame extends over the hips, providing additional mechanical support.  The Cray X will run up to eight hours on a single charge of an easily replaceable battery pack.

Musculoskeletal injuries due to lifting are greatly reduced by wearing the Cray X.  German Bionics also claims that wearing the exoskeleton could reduce nearly a quarter of related workers’ absenteeism for injuries, keeping workers healthy and increasing productivity.

German Bionics is offering a new accessory with the Cray X, the smart Cray Visor. Combined with the Cray X, the Cray Visor accesses the iIoT and Smart Factory integration, allowing information and instructions to display on the visor screen. Another means of protecting the health of workers, the visor shields wearers from airborne health risks such as COVID-19.
