The pair set this record against England in the third Test at Headingley in Leeds. For their side, Mitchell-Blundell put on another impressive performance. The pair set up a stand of 120 runs when NZ was struggling at 123/5, and Blundell was eventually bowled for 55 by pacer Matty Potts.

With this, the pair has surpassed the mark set by Martin Crowe and Andrew Jones in 1991 against Sri Lanka, when they combined for 552 runs across two innings.

NZ put 329 runs in the first innings. England were struck early as they lost 6 wickets for 55 runs. But Eng continued to attack as Jonny Bairstow completed his 2nd consecutive century in Test cricket. Debutant Jamie Overton too notched up a half-century. The duo has till now added more than 200 runs at more than 5 runs per over. Overton is headed towards his century while Bairstow is just carrying his hitting form.

Overton did not have the best of times with the ball but he seems to be enjoying his outing with the bat. He had been in good form with the bat in County cricket as well.
