Aldi has announced the locations of six new stores which will open in the coming months.

The supermarket is set to open 35 new stores across the UK this year.

The retailer, which is now the UK’s fourth largest supermarket, will open shops in Preston and Derby “later this month”.

Sites in Skelmersdale and Newport opened earlier this year.

Aldi has previously announced its long-term target of 1,500 stores in the UK, and it is set to invest £550million on expanding its UK footprint this year alone.

Each of the new store openings will create around 40 new jobs on average.

List of new Aldi stores set to open in coming months:

  • Portway, Preston
  • Meteor Retail Park, Derby
  • Castle Gresley, Derbyshire
  • Swinfen Vale, Bardon
  • High Wycombe, Buckinghamshire
  • Stoke Gifford, Bristol

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “After attracting more new customers than any other supermarket in the last 12 months [according to Kantar data], we’re more determined than ever to expand our presence across the country.

“We want to make high-quality food accessible to all, and shoppers know they’ll always get more for their money when shopping at Aldi.”

Earlier this month, Aldi unveiled a “wish list” of priority locations across London where it is hoping to build new stores.

The supermarket giant said it had a particular interest in sites within the M25 due to a strong demand for the brand in the capital.

As part of a £500million investment to bring more Aldi stores to within the M25, the retailer is looking to open another 100 stores within the area.

This would create around 3,500 new jobs in the region.

Some examples of priority locations where Aldi is searching for sites include:

  • Bromley
  • Beckenham
  • Richmond
  • Walthamstow
  • Wanstead
  • Winchmore Hill
  • Notting Hill
  • Chelsea
  • Kensington
  • Chiswick
  • Highbury
  • Hackney
  • Barnet

However, this is not a guarantee that Aldi will set up shop in these areas.

Jonathan Neale, Managing Director of National Real Estate at Aldi UK, said: “We want to make high quality, affordable food accessible to all, but there are still many areas in the capital that don’t have access to an Aldi and, as a result, too many people have to make do with big prices at the traditional supermarkets.

“The locations we’ve identified are places where there is demand for our stores and we are committed to continue investing until we can bring our quality products and unbeatable prices to as many people as possible.”
