The captains for the upcoming three-team Women’s CPL (Caribbean Premier League) have been announced and Hayley Matthews, Stafanie Taylor and Deandra Dottin will be leading Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors and Trinbago Knight Riders respectively.
The teams for the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, which is set to run concurrently with the men’s CPL, were drafted from a pool of players put together by Cricket West Indies.

The Women’s Caribbean Premier League teams are set to have 14 players each in the squad and so far 33 players have been picked in total by CWI and the players have been divided equally among the three teams. The remaining 3 slots in each squad will be filled by overseas players.
Meanwhile, the Women’s Caribbean Premier League, which was officially announced by CWI president Ricky Skerritt in March, is set to commence on August 30 at St Kitts, which will be hosting the entire competition.
“With Matthews and Taylor rated in the top 10 T20 allrounders in the world and Dottin one of the most destructive batters in the women’s game, all three players have shown their quality for the West Indies and in domestic competitions around the globe, a CPL press release said.
The Cricket West Indies President Ricky Skerritt said that the inaugural edition of the Women’s Caribbean Premier League represents “a huge upward step” for West Indies. He stated:
“This inaugural Women’s version of the CPL represents a huge upward step for West Indies cricket. I am grateful to all those in CPL and CWI who made it happen, especially the three pioneering franchises who have so willingly got on board.”
Meanwhile, Hero CPL’s CEO Pete Russell said that he is pleased to see the Women’s Caribbean Premier League becoming a reality. He said:
“A Women’s CPL is the next logical step as we grow the brand, and we are very pleased that we have been able to make this a reality in 2022. We are grateful to the CWI, the Barbados Royals, the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Trinbago Knight Riders for working with us on this ground-breaking tournament and we look forward to showcasing the tremendous skills of all these talented players.”
