India dominated day 1 of the first Test in Mohali in what was a historic Test match in many respects. India ended the day on 356/6 with Rishabh Pant (96) narrowly missing out on his fifth Test ton. It was a collective batting effort from the Indian batters which paid dividends with some of the Test regulars not being a part of the squad.

The Test match was Virat Kohli’s 100th and the first for Rohit Sharma as India’s Test skipper. Likewise, the day was decorated by the few other memorable moments which went onto becoming key records at the end of the day’s play.

Suranga Lakmal playing his last Test series picked just one wicket on the first day as did Vishwa Fernando and Lahiru Kumara.

Meanwhile, as India ended on top on the first day, we take a look at some of the key stats at the end of the day’s play in Mohali.
