South African batters Quinton de Kock and Rassie van der Dussen made huge progress in ICC’s latest released rankings for ODI batsmen.
De Kock smashed 78 and 124 in the second and third ODI against India, subsequently winning the Player of the Series award as well. He was unstoppable at the top of the order and ensured the Proteas always had runs on the board to work with. He jumped up four spots in the rankings and is now in 5th place with 783 points.
Rassie also moved up ten spots following his highest ODI score in the first ODI followed by a fifty in the third. He has entered the top ten having only played a handful of matches in his career so far.
Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma retained their second and fourth positions on the table respectively. Kohli added two more fifties to his tally but couldn’t convert them into the 71st century, something he has fallen short of for over two years now.
South Africa skipper Temba Bavuma jumped 21 spots to 59 after his career’s second century that came in the first ODI against India. As for the bowling rankings, Lungi Ngidi sits in 20th place after taking five wickets in the 3-match series.
Keshav Maharaj jumped twenty spots to reach 33. He dismissed Kohli twice in the series and was extremely economical as well bowling in the crucial middle-overs phase of the games.
